Welcome Address by Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality Mayor the Honourable Mayor: Cllr MV Madlala on the occasion of the 2013 SANDF Fittest Soldier Competition

5 August 2013

Greetings: South African National Defence Force

Greetings to all competitors

All protocol observed

It is with great pleasure that I welcome all the 400 and more soldiers that have visited Ladysmith on this test of physical fitness, the competition of the Fittest Soldier.

The importance of physical fitness cannot be emphasized enough; it is impressive that the SANDF hosts events such as these that motivate physical fitness amongst this countries heroes`, our soldiers.

Staying physically active means keeping your body functioning at a high level as well as maintaining great health at all times.

Just recently our beautiful town of Ladysmith was visited by the soldiers who were part of the team of soldiers deployed in Central Africa Republic. Those brave soldiers not only showed great physical strength but also showed the enormous spirit of togetherness they had during the visit.

By that I would like to motivate that spirit of togetherness amongst all the soldiers that are visiting Ladysmith and 5 Sai.

The relationship that the Emnambithi/Ladysmith municipality has with 5Sai has grown over the years and it`s through events like these that this town`s economy will develop and grow.

As all our visiting soldiers enjoy their stay in Ladysmith, I would encourage you to take time out to visit our shopping malls and wonderful tourist sites.

Once again, I warmly welcome all of you in Ladysmith and 5Sai. I trust that your stay will be enjoyable. And may the best man or woman win.

I thank you.
