Ladies and Gentlement
Let me start by conveying my deepest sadness on the passing of the Struggle Icon, Humanitarian, Hero and Father of this Free Nation, Tata Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.
This Global Icon Is the reason why we are today living in a free and democratic country. As the Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality we salute you Tata Madiba, we are proud of all that you have done for this country. Our sincerest condolences to his family, to fellow South Africans and the World at large. Lala Ngoxolo Madiba.
Ladies and Gentlemen it is that time of the year again where excellence and dedication of staff members is recognised and awarded.
I am honoured to be here tonight for the Municipal Excellence Awards 2013 Ceremony. I would like first to offer my warmest congratulations to the recepients of these prestigious awards.
The awards represent the high standard and outstanding performance of municipal officials and serve as a recognition of the exemplary management practices adopted by the management of the municipality.
People of excellence go the extra mile to do what`s right. Each of our award recipients has an interesting story to tell about their journey towards excellence, and of the people who made an impact on them individually.
Over the years we have been able to award our officials who have been recognized to have gone an extra mile in bettering the lives of our municipality and its citizens.
It is our hope that these awards will inspire many more municipal officials to contribute to this critical aspect of service delivery.
This municipality has produced some of the best service delivery results and has thus earned the respect from many others. And it is through the hard work of all officials who have gone beyond the call of duty to prove that the Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality does indeed, care, serve and thrive in putting people first.
Our Former President, Nelson Mandela said in his State of the Nation Address in 1994 that "We are confident that, motivated by the desire to serve the people, the public service will discharge its responsibility with diligence, sensitivity and enthusiasm, among other things paying attention to the important goals of increasing efficiency and productivity".
Honoured Guests, this annual event will grow and this is our chance as a municipality and to invest in these dedicated workers. It is up to us to recognise them first before they get honoured elsewhere because if they do, then we would have failed them.
I am confident that in each and every one of us lies a desire to serve our society in one way or the other. Let`s go out there and serve our people with pride and smiles on our faces. And always remember the Batho Pele principals when you do your job.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I challenge you to create and be part of a municipality that cares. To adapt a culture that encourages, recognises, supports and rewards service excellence. I urge you to seek and find the joy and happiness that comes with dedicated service to humanity.
We would like to once again congratulate as well as challenge the achievers present at this gathering to sustain service excellence.
Sometimes even when you are on the right track, you will be run over if you just sit there and you do not move forward.
Let us live and strive for excellence in Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality. Let us unanimously proclaim that `We Care, We Serve, and We Belong!`
I thank you.
Cllr M.V Madlala
Mayor Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality
