Ladysmith Extension 15 Development

Stedone LogoStedone, as a development partner of the Municipality, intend to develop a circa 40 000 m2 regional shopping mall and specialist retail precinct at the south east corner of the intersection of the N11 and Helpmekaar Road which will serve as a much needed social retail destination for the community of Ladysmith and surrounding areas.

It is anticipated that construction on the new regional mall will commence in earnest in early 2011 and be completed by the third quarter of 2012 and, in so doing, will re-establish Ladysmith’s strategic position and prominence in the centre of the Province and re-energise economic growth and development for this rapidly urbanising town and region.

The new shopping mall and specialist retail precinct will anchor the wider Ladysmith Extension 15 mixed-use development vision which will ultimately include modern business office parks, a hotel, a light industrial/logistics precinct, a new rationalised civic core, substantial residential opportunities and associated sports and recreational facilities in its anticipated 15-20 year implementation period.

The respective stakeholders of this development initiative are desirous that this significant investment in the local economy will greatly contribute to the reduction in the current unemployment rate as well as the upliftment of previously disadvantaged neighbouring communities through job creation, skills transfer and the preferential treatment of local enterprises wherever they are determined to be appropriate and sustainable.
