Today marks the 1st Anniversary of the death of Nelson Rolihlala Mandela. A man who spent a large part of his life fighting for the liberation of the then discriminated black people of South Africa. His role in the freedom of the nation as it stands, is indeed not forgotten. We remember you tata, and we will never forget what you have done for us as your children.

Ladies and gentlemen, as I stand here on behalf of council, I realise that the employees of the Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality have done a great job this year. Just this week as a municipality we were extremely excited to have received a clean audit. Our municipality is one of 20 municipalities in KZN who received a clean audit and we owe that amazing achievement to the joint effort of both the administration and political spheres of this municipality.

Back to the reason we are gathered here today. The 2014 Employee Mayoral Awards. I want to say that as council we know and recognise the amount of effort that you put into your jobs individually in making sure that this municipality is successful.

These awards are a truly wonderful way to recognize and encourage organizational excellence, so once again thank you to all those who have worked to make this event possible. These awards are symbolic of working together in common cause and that is making this one of the best municipalities.

We know that there are various challenges in different departments. The relocations of some departments, may have been a temporary setback but I think all is in order. Therefore we will all continue with service delivery excellence as we have been doing all along.

It does happen every now and then, in the busy schedules and hectic working days you have as employees that you see that we don`t show appreciation. Let me assure you, we appreciated everything.

The successful growth of our municipality is the direct result of you, our valued employees. An American writer once said "Set excellent performance as your standard and strive to achieve it each day", indeed if you set the bar high for yourself there is no way but the top for you. I`m saying this because achieving great results for us as individuals may not be easy but working on it may result to great results. So if we as a municipality want to someday be a metro or city, it will be ourselves who achieve that status with dedication and excellence.

Once again congratulations to all those that will be receiving awards today.

Know now that just because you received recognition today doesn`t mean that you must relax. Keep on going and improving for more next year.
